Spike Lee To Debut "Red Hook Summer" At Sundance

One of the films that's got people gabbing at Sundance this year is the debut of the new Spike Lee film Red Hook Summer. It's the story of a young boy from Atlanta who's sent to stay with his preacher grandfather in Brooklyn, and the film has been closely guarded with little promotion and no trailer. What people are really surprised about is that a vet like Spike will be using Sundance to shop the film to distributors, which is usually what the newer, less well-known filmmakers come to Sundance to do. As it turns out Red Hook Summer is an entirely self-funded project. That's right, Mr.Lee reached into his own pocket to bring you this film. Apparently it was to make the film he wanted to make, without a big studio breathing over his shoulder. As a result, the whole thing was shot in 19 days. Bravo to one of our favorite filmmakers for keeping it so real--now, let's hope it all pays off.

Red Hook Summer debuts on Sunday, January 22. If you're going to be at Sundance, don't forget to check out the Timberland Style Night Out event happening here.
